My husband and I dined at Luna Rossa Biagio Lamberti, on Friday night, July 20. We had just come from a viewing of a good friend and were in the mood for some good comfort food. I expected to have to wait to be seated since it was 7:00 pm. But, there were only three other tables occupied.
Our Waiter was polite and neatly dressed. It was a BYOB so, being unprepared, we ordered iced tea. We began with the Antipasto All’ Italiano. It was delicious with an assortment of Italian meats and cheeses with grilled vegetables and roasted peppers.
My husband ordered the Soup of the day which was supposed to be chicken and pasta – A Huge Disappointment. The first bowl had one spoonful of chicken and very little pasta. He asked the waiter to try again, and the polite man took the bowl back to the kitchen only to bring back a bowl that he said his manager had poured. This one contained two spoons of chicken and pasta.
I ordered the salad to go along with my Filet Mignon. There were about 10 pieces of iceberg lettuce and one slice of cucumber. I cut it into 3 pieces so that I could eat it with my four pieces of shaved carrot – Another Disappointment.
The entree my husband ordered was the Veal Saltimbocca. Unless, it is a native dish to Italy that we know nothing about, its construction was more like that of a lazy chef who layered the eggplant, prosciutto, and mozzarella cheese in neat slabs. The sauce was poured over all and its taste left something to be desired.
My Filet Mignon was tender and cooked medium rare just the way I like it. It was supposed to be served with roasted vegetables and roasted potatoes. There were two small potatoes cut in half and the roasted vegetables were the same as on the appetizer tray. They were okay, but one would think the chef had cooked enough for the day, and by 7:00 pm most of them were gone.
We will wait a long time before we spend another $75 there. I give them 2 and 1/2 plates.
